Great news for your Thursday morning! History was made today, as the U.S. Senate voted 64-32 just minutes ago to ban discrimination in the workplace based on a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.

Merkley ENDAThe bill, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2013, was authored and championed by Oregon’s own Sen. Jeff Merkley. It prevents¬†employers from firing, refusing to hire, or discriminating against those employed or seeking employment, on the basis of their perceived or actual sexual orientation or gender identity. ¬†Such protections are already in place prohibiting discrimination based on race, religion, gender, national origin, age, and disability.
